What is a Surrogate?
A surrogate is a woman who carries a pregnancy on behalf of intended parent(s), helping make parenthood possible through an intentional medical and legal journey. It is a remarkable role rooted in compassion and the desire to help another family grow.
Two Types of Surrogacy
Gestational
In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate carries an embryo created through IVF and is not genetically related to the baby. This is the most common form of surrogacy today.
Traditional
In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate uses her own egg and is therefore genetically related to the baby. This type of surrogacy is far less common and may involve additional legal and medical considerations.
